For those of you who don’t know, my husband and I are really big travelers. We love going new places and experiencing new things. We save up a good amount of money and the majority of our allotted vacation to go on one big trip a year. So as you can imagine, this year has been a little bit of a bummer!
We decided to make the most of it and do a little weekend trip! We didn’t want to go to far and wanted to go somewhere we felt safe. Jordan wanted to go somewhere that was close to water. I wanted to go somewhere that was laid back. We were both in desperate need of a relaxing getaway. Cleveland was 3.5 hours away and right by the water….so Cleveland it was!
We packed up and headed north with a few too many outfits and absolutely no idea what we were going to fill our time doing. We both like to travel with a pretty loose plan of what we are going to be doing. I won’t lie to you, we didn’t have very high expectations of Cleveland, but it served us well! We had a wonderful and relaxing time and we would definitely go back again! If you are looking for a place to relax, drink some wine, and get great views of Lake Erie , Cleveland is a great option! And I wanted to share some of our favorite places we visited with you!
First, I have to tell you about the hotel we stayed in. We stayed at the Hilton Cleveland Downtown and had a great experience! Not only were they wonderful with their guidelines for social distancing, but the view of the lake is unbeatable! One of the walls in our hotel room was all windows, so every morning we woke up to a really spectacular view. A GIANT BONUS to this hotel is that it has a rooftop bar upstairs! There’s outdoor and indoor seating – so if it got a little too hot or started to rain, you could walk right inside and finish your drink. This was one of our favorite spots we spent time in. We sat upstairs for hours just hanging out and chatting. It was exactly what I needed! The location was great too! It is super close to everything! We could either walk or take a 5 minute Uber to anything we wanted to see!
One of my non-negotiables when we go on vacation is good coffee. So finding a good coffee shop was KEY. After reading some reviews, we walked to Rising Star Coffee Roasters from our hotel and we both LOVED it! My weakness is lavender lattes and they had one of the best I have ever had! Jordan got a mocha there and would not stop raving about it. It is safe to say we were both big fans. They also did a wonderful job at social distancing and no contact.
Our favorite restaurant we ate at was Nuevo Modern Mexican and Tequila Bar! Nuevo was just a 10 minute walk away from our hotel and when I tell you they had the best queso I have ever had in my life, I ain’t playin’! This restaurant has Latin inspired food and amazing margaritas! It is located right on the lake so the view is incredible as well! 10/10 recommend!
Jordan and I are both SUCKERS for sweets! When I asked for recommendations on where to go in Cleveland, we got a ton of people who said to make sure we made a trip to Mitchell’s Ice Cream! This ice cream is hand crafted and sources their ingredients from places in the Cleveland area! HOW COOL! I got Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream and Jordan got a chocolate shake! Both were SUPER yummy and the perfect after dinner treat. They are currently doing curbside service which was great as well!
On our way out of town I demanded that we get a donut from Brewnuts! Brewnuts is a local spot that hand makes craft beer donuts. HOW COOL. Now, not only are these donuts super unique in regards to their ingredients, but they are also the size of my head. I mean seriously.. they are HUGE. I insisted we got a half dozen donuts without realizing how large they were and I swear we will be eating these donuts for the next month. They are super tasty and the perfect treat before we hit the road to go home!
Overall, we had a great time over the weekend eating lots of food that is not good for us, drinking a good amount of wine, and spending some much needed quality time relaxing together!
What are some of your favorite places to go on weekend trips to?! Any suggestions for the next one? I would love to hear form you!
